Yet, since the 16th century Portugal, Netherland and England had competed to be the sole ruler of the islands that produced one of the most sought after commodities, nutmeg. Now, amateur tourists and history buff alike find Banda’s colonial remnants exciting, from old forts to nutmeg plantation which still exist and seamlessly merge into a cultural landscape, in which natural and cultural elements are intertwined.
